What are all these acronyms I keep seeing?
MUUGs exists in a larger frame work of UU organizations, all of which relate to MUUGs in some form. We're going to highlight a few of these so you can learn more about them.
Coming of Age (CoA)
Coming of Age (CoA) is a program run by many congregations, and in the this district runs alongside a retreat program similar to MUUGs. However, there are some major differences. For one, it serves a different age range, 8th-10th grade as opposed to the MUUGs' age range of 6th-9th grade. These retreats are also only open to those who are involved in a congregational Coming of Age program, and have a mentor through that program. Additionally, Coming of Age has a more firm structure and progression. It consists of three retreats with a distinct progression over the course of a year, and youth sign up for all three retreats, instead of registering on a retreat by retreat basis like MUUGs. For more information about Coming of Age, please contact your congregational leaders.
Young Religious Unitarian Universalists of the Pacific (YRUUP)

YRUUP is a program, after which MUUGs was modeled, that serves youth ages 14-20. While highly similar too MUUGs in that these are weekend events held throughout the year with a major goal of youth empowerment, YRUUP's different age range leads to some key differences in programming. For instance these events are almost entirely youth run, with older adults serving as mentors and partners rather than leaders. There is also a greater degree of flexibility for those who are attending, which allows for youth to have a greater degree of individual control over the experiences they take away. For more information you can explore YRUUP's website, Yruup.org.
Pacific Central District of the Unitarian Universalist Association (PCD-UUA, or just PCD)

The PCD-UUA is the parent organization of MUUGs, and is an association of congregations that covers Northern California, Northern Nevada and Hawaii. In addition to overseeing the three youth organization of the district, the PCD-UUA also puts on District Assembly (DA) and gives various resources to the congregations inside the district. For more information, check our their website, pcd-uua.org.
